Houses

 

Houses are used to set up the houses that exist on the farm. Within each house, the user is required to assign at least one bin to the farm for feed deliveries. The system currently supports  a four bin to one house relationship. The Farm must be created before any houses can be set up.

Create a New House

The new House creation process consists of the following sections:

 

  1. In SMTS>SIM>Master Data, select Houses.
  2. In the Houses main index, click to create a new house record.
  3. In the New Record dialog box, from Farm No, select the required farm.
  4. In the House No field, enter a number for the new house and then click 'OK'.

 

General

The General tab is used to enter the basic details for the house.

 

General Details

  1. House No defaults in from the New Record dialog box and displays the number of the house.  
  2. The house will default as Active. If the house becomes in active, de-select the flag.
  3. Length indicates the length of the house, and is an optional field. Length can be entered in feet, yards or meters depending on the unit of measure used by the division.

  4. Width indicates the width of the house, and is an optional field. Width is entered in feet, yards or meters depending on the unit of measure used by the division.

  5. Area is a calculated field that calculates the area in ft2 or m2 for the house. Area = Length x Width. Area is used for planning and is manually entered. The value can also be manually entered.

  6. In the Year Constructed field, enter the year that the house was built.

  7. The Begin/End Inactive Date fields are used if the house is gong to be inactive for a period of time. If so, enter the date the house will become inactive in the Begin Inactive Date field, and the last day the house will be inactive in the End Inactive Date field.

  8. Head Capacity defines the head capacity for the house. The data is used for planning purposes.

  9. The CMM or CFM field is optional and indicates the measurement for airflow in cubic feet per minute, or cubic meters per minute.

  10. From the Phase drop-down menu, select the house phase stage. Available options are Gestation or Maternity.

  11. In the Attachment field, any type of file can be attached. (Example: Word document, picture, music or video clip).

Bins

Once houses are created, a user must create at least one bin to record feed capacity.

  1. Select the Bins tab and click to add a new bin line.
  1. In the Bin Name field, enter a unique description to identify the bin (alphanumeric, maximum 50 characters).
  2. In the Bin Capacity field, enter the capacity of the bin in lbs. or kgs.
  3. From Bin Sex Type, enter the sex of the pigs in the bin. Options are: Male, Female or Straight Run.
  4. House Index is an identifier that associates the order of the bins to the house. The index is automatically assigned in single increments.
  5. Optional field where the feed type can be defined for FDSA. Select the required Feed Type No.
  6. Feed Type Name will default in.

 


Crates

Crates can optionally be set up as a location within a house. In the event the crate option is used, animals are required to transfer from the crate using the Movements or Location options.

  1. Select the Crates tab and click to add a new bin line.
  1. In the Crate No field, enter a unique numeric code to identify the crate.
  2. The crate will default as Active. If the crate is no longer being used in production placements, de-select the flag.

 


Pens

Pens can optionally be se tup as a location within a house. In the event the pen option is used, animals are required to transfer from the pen using the Movements or Location options. The Pen option on the Sow Location Granularity Data Entry Mode switch must first be selected before entering a pen line. The switch is located in: Admin>System >Registry>Swine Registry>Swine>SM>General.

  1. Select the Pens tab and click to add a new bin line.
  1. In the Pen No field, enter a numeric code to identify the pen.
  2. Select the Active flag to include the pen in production placements. If the flag is not selected, the pen will be excluded from production placements.
  3. From the Pen No child grid, enter a Crate No.
  4. Select the Active flag if the crate is active.

 

Attributes

Attributes are assigned to farms and houses are defined in: Admin>Business>General>Definitions>Attributes>Attribute Definitions. When a new entity is created, the attributes default in with an option for the user to modify.

 

  1. Click the drop-down menu on the selected attribute (Example: Floor Cover) and select the required code. The description will default in.
