bagged feed formulas

The complete steps to create a feed formula are outlined in Feed Formula, however there are some specific steps required to create a bagged formula and associate the bagged formula with the bulk formula. Once the bagged formula has been created, the Repack transaction is used to transfer the bulk to bag.

Create a Bagged Feed Formula

There are three components to creating a bagged feed formula.

The feed formula for a bagged feed is set up in the same manner as a feed formula with a few differences that are specific to bagged feeds. Changes are noted in the following screens.

General

  1. Create the bagged formula in the same manner as outlined in Feed Formula>General with the following exceptions.
    1. Inventory Units are set to the amount of feed per bag. For example, 50 represents 50 lbs/bag for Imperial measurement or 50 kgs/bag for Metric.
    2. Storage Mode is set to Bagged.

BOM

The BOM tab is optional, but required if the usage of the packaging products is to be automatically recorded at the time of repack from bulk to bags. Based on the products assigned to the BOM, the usage transactions will be created for the packaging products. The global post process will calculate the cost of the products and create the journal transactions. The required products must be assigned to General>Products>Feed>BOM Packages prior to being assigned to the formula. The products must be in inventory for the feed mill that is repacking the bulk formula prior to the repack transaction being created.

  1. Click to add a BOM Package to the product.

  2. In the Select Packages prompt, check the packages that are required for the product.

  3. The details from the predefined BOM package will default. All columns are read-only.

  4. Program Name identifies the BOM Package that is assigned to the product.

  5. The Effective Date indicates the first date that the package becomes available. Any flocks placed on or after this date will assume the package based on the defined effective date. New effective dates can be entered in General> Products>Animals>BOM Packages.

  6.

  7. To view the details related to the BOM Package, click on the + to access the details.
  8. Product Type determines the type of field product that is used in the package.
  9. Product No identifies the code for the product that will be used and Product Name contains the description of the product.
  10. The Quantity reflects the BOM units per inventory unit that will be required to be ordered for the formula. For example, if 25 bags are placed on a pallet, then the quantity is calculated as 1/25 = 0.04. If 50 bags are produced, then 2 pallets will be required.

Assign Bagged Formula to Bulk Formula

The Bagged Formulas tab is only required is the bulk feed is repacked into bagged feed. This tab can only be populated if the Storage Mode = Bulk. When populated, there is a relationship created where the bulk feed can only be repacked to the assigned bagged formulas.

  1. In the Feed Formula Index, select the bulk feed that is to be associated to the bagged formulas.
  2. Select the Bagged Formulas tab, click to add a bagged formula.
  3. The selection list will only be filtered for formulas where the Storage Mode = Bagged.
  4. Select the required bagged formulas to be associated with the bulk feed.

Create a Feed Formula Version for Bagged Feed

The bagged feed formula version is created when the Repack transaction is created to transfer bulk to a bagged formula. Based on the selected bulk feed formula version that is repacked, if there is not an existing bagged formula version with the same date as the bulk, a new bagged formula version will be created with the same version date as the bulk version. This will allow the ingredient and nutrient composition to match the bulk and bagged formulas.

  1. Version Date will be assigned based on the bulk version that has been repacked.
  2. Version No will default based on the next sequential number for the bagged formula and can be modified if required.
  3. Batch Size is only required to calculate the Ingredients>Amount field in the versions screen.
  4. Bulk Formula No will be assigned based the configuration of the bagged feed formula and the repack transaction.
  5. The Bulk Formula Name will default based on the selected bulk formula.
  6. In the Bulk Formula Version No field will be assigned based on the Version Date of the bagged/bulk formula.
  7. Bulk Formula Version Date will default from the selected bulk version.
  8. The Ingredients and Nutrients tab details will default based on the selected version.
