feed formula versions

Feed Formula Versions are required for feed to be produced and or delivered.

Prior to Creating Feed Formula Versions, the following items must be created:

• Feed Mills
• Feed Formulas
• Ingredients
• Nutrients

The Feed Formula Version document contains the following components:

Create a Feed Formula Version

1. In FMIM>Master Data>Versions, select Feed Formula Versions. 
2. Click thebutton to create a new  record.
   
   
   
3. In the New Record dialog box, select the Feed Mill No producing the feed.
4. Select the Formula No of the feed being produced.
5. Click the OK button and the Feed Formula Version Screen will open.

Versions

The Version Screen assigns the effective date and the feed formula version to the feed formula. Depending on the type of feed formula, the required fields will be different.  

• Finished Feed

  Finished Feed  formulas are the basic feed formulas that are produced and delivered internally and externally.

   

  

   

  1. Enter the Version Date to establish the effective date for the feed formula.
  2. The Version No will assign the next sequential number with an option for the user to manually modify if required.
  3. Enter the Batch Size to indicate the default batch size for the feed formula version. This field is used to determine the ingredient percentage composition if the registry switch for Formula Master Ingredient Usage Mode is set to Amount. If the registry switch for Formula Master  Ingredient Usage Mode is set to Percent, then the Batch Size will be used to calculate the amount based on the percentage entered.
  4. Density is an optional field to enter the density of the formula that is used for calculating feed formula storage.
  5. Use the drop-down to select the Ingredient No (Re-work). This field will be used when a feed delivery return is created as the feed will be returned to the mill as rework. The feed will be returned to ingredients based on the internal price established for the feed formula. Ingredient Name (Re-work) is derived based on the selected Ingredient No (Re-work).
  6. The Planning Default flag is selected if the version is used as the default for ingredient demand planning. There is an option in Feed Demand to use the default feed formula to determine ingredient demand.
  7. The Standard flag is used if the feed mill operates on a standard cost basis. The selected standard version will be used to calculate reformulation and mix variances based on the actual version produced.
  8. Tag indicates the default values that will appear on the feed tag for the feed formula version.
  9. Attachments allows files such as specifications to be attached to the formula version.

  Ingredients

  The ingredients tab defines the ingredients that are used to create the finished feed. The feed production transaction will create usage transactions for the ingredients that are used to produce the finished feed.

  1. Click to add an ingredient.
  2. Select the required ingredient. Note that the ingredient must have an Ingredient Version for the mill that is assigned to the finished formula.
  3. If the feed mill registry switch for Formula Master Ingredient Usage Mode is set to Amount, enter the quantity of ingredient that is used based on the batch size and the percentage will calculate. If the registry switch for Formula Master  Ingredient Usage Mode is set to Percent, enter the quantity of ingredient that is used and the amount will calculate based on the batch size.

  Nutrients

  Nutrients must be defined on the feed formula. Once defined on the feed formula, the nutrients will default to the feed formula version where the values can then be assigned.

   

  

   

  1. Nutrient No displays the code for the selected nutrient.
  2. Based on the selected nutrient, the Nutrient Name will be displayed. This field is usually the description for the nutrient that will be printed on feed tags and other documents.
  3. The Unit Description is defined as the basis that the nutrient is measured per unit. Some examples are %, per gram, calories or kilojoules.
  4. /KC  is used to determine how the nutrient is calculated. If this flag is selected, then it only selects nutrient with the Energy flag marked and calculates the nutrient amount by taking the total nutrient and dividing by 1000.
  5. The Energy  flag is selected for the feed formula and used in the calculation of nutrients when the /KC flag is selected.
  6. Nutrients can be assigned to specific Species Type or associated with all species. Options for species are Chick, Duck, Layer, Turkey or Swine.
  7. If the nutrient is required to print on the feed tag, select the Feed Tag Print option. If the nutrient is not required on the feed tag, then the option is not selected.
  8. Amount indicates the quantity of the nutrient based on the unit description and the sample unit size.

   

• Bagged Feed

  Bagged feed versions are created automatically when a repack transaction is created to bag the feed. The bagged feed formula must be configured as outlined in Bagged Feed Formula for the repack process to properly assign and maintain the links to the bulk feed formula versions. New versions are not manually created for bagged feed.

   

  

   

  1. The Version Date will default based on the version that is repacked from bulk to bagged.
  2. The Version No will assign the next sequential number with an option for the user to manually modify if required.
  3. The Batch Size will default from the bulk feed formula version.
  4. Density is currently not used for bagged feed formulas
  5. The Bulk Formula will be assigned based on the configuration of the bulk and bagged formulas. This will be assigned when the repack transaction is created to transfer the feed from bulk to bag. The Bulk Formula Version Date will also be assigned in this process.
  6. Ingredient No (Re-work) is not used for bagged feed as feed returned in bags will be returned to bag inventory, not rework ingredients as occurs with bulk feed.
  7. The Planning Default flag is selected if the version is used as the default for ingredient demand planning. There is an option in Feed Demand to use the default feed formula to determine ingredient demand. This will be derived from the bulk version.
  8. The Standard flag is used if the feed mill operates on a standard cost basis. The selected standard version will be used to calculate reformulation and mix variances based on the actual version produced.
  9. Tag indicates the default values that will appear on the feed tag for the feed formula version.
  10. Attachments allows files such as specifications to be attached to the formula version.

  Ingredients

  The ingredients will be derived based on the assigned bulk feed formula version.

  Nutrients

  Nutrients will be derived based on the assigned bulk feed formula version.

   

• Blended

  Blended formulas are comprised of two base formulas. The base formulas are produced, however the blended formula is delivered. The system calculates the usage of each base as determined by the percentages of each as entered in the feed formula version.

   

  

   

  1. Enter the Version Date to establish the effective date for the feed formula.
  2. The Version No will assign the next sequential number with an option for the user to manually modify if required.
  3. Enter the Batch Size to indicate the default batch size for the feed formula version. This field is used to determine the ingredient percentage composition if the registry switch for Formula Master Ingredient Usage Mode is set to Amount.   4. Formula Blend 1 is the initial base formula for the blended feed. The base formula must be assigned to the feed mill which the blended feed version is being created. Select the required base formula and enter the composition percentage in the Formula Blend 1 Percent field. The total of the two base formulas must equal 100%.
  5. Formula Blend 2 is the additional base formula for the blended feed. The base formula must be assigned to the feed mill which the blended feed version is being created. Select the required base formula and enter the composition percentage in the Formula Blend 2 Percent field. The total of the two base formulas must equal 100%.
  6. Density is an optional field to enter the density of the formula that is used for calculating feed formula storage.

• Compound

  Compound formulas are comprised of a base formula and an additive. The compound formula is produced and delivered. The ingredient composition is determined based on the percentage of base and additive defined for the compound. There is a feed mill registry switch, Validate Compound Formula Percent that if selected, the total of the base and additive percentages must equal 100%. If the switch is not selected, the total of the base and the additive percentages are not required to equal 100%.

   

  

   

  1. Enter the Version Date to establish the effective date for the feed formula.
  2. The Version No will assign the next sequential number with an option for the user to manually modify if required.
  3. Enter the Batch Size to indicate the default batch size for the feed formula version. This field is used to determine the ingredient percentage composition if the registry switch for Formula Master Ingredient Usage Mode is set to Amount. If the registry switch for Formula Master  Ingredient Usage Mode is set to Percent, then the Batch Size will be used to calculate the amount based on the percentage entered.
  4. Base Formula No is the base formula for the compound feed. The base formula must be assigned to the feed mill which the compound feed version is being created. Select the Base Formula Version No and the Base Formula Version No Date will default. Select the required base formula and enter the composition percentage in the Base Percent field. Depending on the feed mill registry switch for Validate Compound Formula Percent may or may not require the total of the base and additive to equal 100%.
  5. Additive Formula is the additive for the compound feed. The base formula must be assigned to the feed mill which the compound feed version is being created. Select the Additive Formula Version No and the Additive Formula Version Date will default. Select the required additive and enter the composition percentage in the Additive Percent field. Depending on the feed mill registry switch for Validate Compound Formula Percent may or may not require the total of the base and additive to equal 100%.
  6. Density is an optional field to enter the density of the formula that is used for calculating feed formula storage.

Ingredients for compound formulas will be derived based on the ingredients defined on the assigned base and additive formulas. The feed production transaction will create usage transactions for the ingredients that are used to produce the formula.

  Nutrients must be defined on the feed formula. Once defined on the feed formula, the nutrients will default to the feed formula version where the values can then be assigned.

• Pre-Mix

  Pre-Mix formulas are where two or more ingredients are combined to produce another ingredient. A feed production transaction must be created and the resulting pre-mix formula is returned to ingredients as a pre-mix which can then be used in other feed formula production.

   

  

   

  1. Enter the Version Date to establish the effective date for the feed formula.
  2. The Version No will assign the next sequential number with an option for the user to manually modify if required.
  3. Enter the Batch Size to indicate the default batch size for the feed formula version. This field is used to determine the ingredient percentage composition if the registry switch for Formula Master Ingredient Usage Mode is set to Amount. If the registry switch for Formula Master  Ingredient Usage Mode is set to Percent, then the Batch Size will be used to calculate the amount based on the percentage entered.
  4. Density is an optional field to enter the density of the formula that is used for calculating feed formula storage.
  5. Premix Ingredient No is the ingredient that the pre-mix formula will produce. Use the drop-down to select the ingredient. The selection list will be filtered for only ingredients that have an Ingredient Type defined as Pre-Mix. Premix Ingredient Name will default based on the selected Premix Ingredient No.
  6. Ingredient No (Re-work) is not required for pre-mix formulas as the pre-mix formula is not delivered to farms and customers as a feed formula.
  7. The Planning Default flag is selected if the version is used as the default for ingredient demand planning. There is an option in Feed Demand to use the default feed formula to determine ingredient demand.

If the feed mill registry switch for Formula Master Ingredient Usage Mode is set to Amount, enter the quantity of ingredient that is used based on the batch size and the percentage will calculate. If the registry switch for Formula Master  Ingredient Usage Mode is set to Percent, enter the quantity of ingredient that is used and the amount will calculate based on the batch size.

  Nutrients

  Nutrients are not defined for pre-mix formula versions.

• Processed Ingredient

  Processed Ingredient  formulas are where an ingredient is processed to be another ingredient. An example of this is corn which may be then further processed to be a coarse grind corn. The feed formula version allows a shrink factor to be applied where 1000 units of corn may be used to produce 975 units of coarse grind corn.  A feed production transaction must be created and the resulting processed ingredient formula is returned to ingredients as a processed ingredient  which can then be used in other feed formula production.

  6. Processing Shrink indicates the percentage that will be applied as a shrink factor. For example, 1000 units of corn will produce 975 units of coarse corn with a 2.50% shrink factor.
